Referring to my despatch No.111 of the 17th.
April, 1905, I have the honour to transmit six copies of
the Report on the Botanical and Forestry Department for the
year 1905.

Satisfactory progress was made during the
year with the work of afforestation, some 177,000 trees
being planted, including over 60,000 on the mainland, com-
pared with some 111,000 in 1904.
Practically no planting of shade trees in

roads was carried out during the year but a regular pro-
gramme for this work along the main thoroughfares in Kow-
M loon has now been drawn up and a good start in Robinson and

Gadcoigne Roads since the commencement of 1906.

The decrease in the revenue derived from the
sale of Forestry products from $18,208 in 1904 to $1,779 in
the year under review is to be accounted for by the cessa-
